New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in partnership with Tata Docomo introduced free Wi-Fi service in the Connaught Place area of New Delhi. It seems like a step towards the achievement of Prime MinisterNarendra Modi's dream for a digital India.

BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi inaugurated the Wi-Fi service, for inner and outer circles, at Central Park.

A one-time password will be provided to the user to log into the network after which he will be able to avail the service.

As visitors in the region will have access to the internet while they do shopping, there are certain limits to using the Wi-Fi. Here is what you probably don't know about the service.

The usage of only first 20 minutes will be provided free of cost. Thereafter, nominal charges will be applicable for the service.

You can purchase coupons online to use the service for a longer period of time. The coupon worth Rs. 10 will allow 30 minutes of service. To enjoy Wi-Fi for a longer period of time, you can buy coupons worth Rs. 20 and Rs. 50 for one hour and 180 minutes respectively.

The hot spot currently covers a distance of approximately 4.5 kilometers which also makes it country's largest free public Wi-Fi network.

No architecture has been damaged in setting up the system and all the wires are laid underground. New Delhi Municipal Council wishes to make the complete NDMC region Wi-Fi enabled by the beginning of 2016.

The Wi-Fi seems to have a fair speed as nearly 5000 people can access internet at a given time with a speed of 512 Kbps in the region.
